chest liposuction treatment areaApproximately 15% of men in the United States are ashamed to remove their shirt in public, or go to the beach. Why? They suffer from a condition called gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts.

Board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Sean Younai is a top liposuction specialist who delivers artful results, with among the most successful liposuction for men in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles area.

What Causes Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia has many triggers that have been associated with enlarged breast tissue in men including:

  • Side effects of medication
  • Low testosterone levels
  • Alcohol
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Genetics

Patients seeking reduction should consult with their primary care physician to rule out any serious disease factors. There are some therapies available, other than liposuction and surgical breast reduction, which may provide some improvement in chest appearance. These may be effective if there is a very minimal appearance of breast enlargement caused by enlarged breast tissue.

If excess fatty tissue is the problem, diet and exercise are not effective in reducing the size of the breast. Exercising the chest area may define the underlying pectoral muscles, but will not reduce fatty tissue.

High quality chest liposuction in Los Angeles from Dr. Younai may be the solution.

Candidates For Chest Liposuction

In the case of young men under 18, it is best to postpone breast reduction surgery until growth has stopped.

Gynecomastia can begin in young boys as they approach puberty or it can develop in adults. Most of these cases resolve over time with no intervention. If the cause is excess fat, then chest liposuction can be done to remove fat thus removing all feminine characteristics of the chest.

Candidates should be in good health with no uncontrolled underlying medical conditions. Patients should have discussed their goals with Dr. Younai so that the final outcome is understood and agreed upon.

Procedure Steps

Patients will be given a general anesthetic and closely monitored by a board certified anesthesiologist throughout the surgery and recovery period. The surgery is done in Dr. Younai’s fully accredited surgical outpatient center located on the first floor of his plastic surgery practice.

Dr. Younai prefers to use a two-pronged approach when reducing the male breast. He believes this method produces the best result and the least amount of scarring.

First he removes as much fat as possible from the breast and adjacent areas. This reduces the size of the breasts by as much as 90% of their former volume. After this, he removes the remaining fibrous breast tissue through a very small incision either at the edge of the areola or under the crease. Where the incisions are placed to minimize scarring requires keen judgment, which only a highly skilled chest liposuction specialist can provide.

The liposuction method preferred by Dr. Younai is called the tumescent liposuction method.

Dr. Younai uses this method because is the safest and most comfortable for the patient, and allows the laser precise removal of fat so that the chest area can be contoured to a natural shape. This is a very hands-on procedure, requiring the surgeon to be able to feel how much fat is being removed while at the same time creating smooth transitions between the adjoining areas.

For this reason, he does not use other methods of power-assisted liposuction because the vibrations and movement of these machines interfere with the sense of touch that is needed to judge when to stop removing fat, or where to begin a transition.

In cases where the breast is quite large, Dr. Younai recommends a two-stage approach. In the first stage, the excess fat and breast tissue is removed. The skin will contract as healing progresses and after 6 to 8 weeks, the second stage is done to remove any excess skin and complete the process.

Recovery

After surgery, there will be some fluid draining from the liposuction incisions for a few days. A compression garment is placed over the torso and must be worn for 5 to 6 weeks to assist the skin to reattach to the underlying tissue and also to avoid fluid collection under the skin. After the first 48 hours it can be removed for showering.

Depending on the type of work a patient does, work can be resumed after 7 days. Heavy lifting and exercise should be avoided for at least 2 weeks, however if resuming exercise is painful, postpone it for another few weeks.

The chest area may appear lumpy and asymmetrical for the first few weeks due to fluid retention, but this will resolve over the next few weeks following your liposuction in Beverly Hills.
