How Age, Lifestyle, and Goals Can Influence Your Decision

When considering plastic surgery, your age and goals can greatly influence your decision-making. Although there is not exactly a “right time” to consider plastic surgery, there are certain periods when treatment may be more effective or more warranted. (1) Ensuring that the procedure you wish to receive aligns with your lifestyle is also an important factor, as you want your results to allow you to live a fulfilling life without any restrictions. Plastic surgery is meant to deliver the goals you desire and transform your appearance. Certain procedures can also improve your function, physical health, and psychological well-being. Keeping these factors in mind, if you feel ready to enhance your physique and are over the age of 18, plastic surgery can be a great way to improve your self-confidence.

When Is It The Right Time To Consider Plastic Surgery?

The consideration for plastic surgery begins when low self-esteem and low life satisfaction emerge. Many individuals have the desire to restore or enhance their physical appearance through surgical and medical techniques. (2) Despite the ongoing shift to more acceptance in society, certain pressures and expectations remain, and the only right time to consider plastic surgery is when a specific physical insecurity significantly affects your quality of life, and you cannot achieve the desired change through diet, exercise, or non-invasive treatments. You must also want to undergo plastic surgery for yourself, not to appease social expectations or to fix personal relational problems. Plastic surgery can be a life-changing transformation when patients approach it with the right intentions.

Candidates

If you are thinking about aesthetically transforming your body, have maintained a stable weight, and want plastic surgery for personal fulfillment rather than to please others, you may be an ideal candidate. Ideally, you should be a nonsmoker or be willing to quit and be in generally good health. Plastic surgery is a life-changing opportunity that can positively impact your appearance and increase your self-esteem; however, you must have realistic expectations for your results.

Personal Consultation

Before a procedure, you will meet with Dr. Younai for a consultation. Here, Dr. Younai will evaluate your medical history and discuss your goals. He will also examine your body and determine the best surgical procedure(s) for your goals. After deciding which ones best fit your goals, he will create a personalized treatment plan. This plan will outline your specific preparation and recovery requirements, and he will tailor certain aspects of the selected procedure(s) to your unique case. Dr. Younai will also ensure that you are at least 18 years old or have parental consent for an elective procedure. His goal is to ensure you feel comfortable and confident with your procedure. He will answer any questions or concerns you may have, as well as provide a detailed cost estimate. Preparation

Effectively preparing for your procedure keeps you strong and healthy throughout treatment, which facilitates a faster recovery. Different procedures have different preparation requirements, as do different patients. However, in general, Dr. Younai advises that you:

  • Stop taking blood-thinning supplements or medications
  • Pause alcohol consumption and cease nicotine use
  • Arrange transportation back home
  • Set up a comfortable recovery space at home
  • Acquire any prescription medications you may need during your recovery
  • Take time away from your professional and personal responsibilities to recover unburdened
  • Arrive at your appointment free of makeup or lotions, perfume, or deodorant, if necessary
  • Wear comfortable clothing and avoid wearing jewelry and contact lenses to your procedure

Procedure

Your surgery will vary depending on the specific procedure you undergo, but most follow a process similar to the following:

You will first receive general anesthesia, if necessary, as well as local anesthesia around the treatment area. After a couple of minutes, and once the local anesthetic numbs the treatment area and/or once you are unconscious, Dr. Younai will carefully make an incision to access the necessary tissues. Dr. Younai is very meticulous with incisions, only placing them in areas where they will blend with your natural contours or hide beneath other structures.

After making the necessary incision, he will make your desired corrections, whether they involve removing fat or excess skin, tightening muscles, contouring the body, placing implants, or more. With the desired corrections complete, Dr. Younai will check to ensure symmetry and then close your incisions with advanced techniques that minimize scarring. After your procedure, you will spend time in a recovery room where Dr. Younai and his team will monitor you and ensure you are stable for release.

Recovery

Immediately after your procedure, you will need someone alongside you to assist with any movements during the first 48 hours. You can expect swelling, bruising, and manageable discomfort, but following your personalized recovery instructions will allow for a smooth healing process. Throughout your recovery, you will also attend follow-up visits with Dr. Younai to ensure that your recovery is on track and your results are developing as you desire. After two to four weeks, your swelling will begin to subside, and you can begin to participate in light exercises. You can resume your full routine when Dr. Younai gives clearance.

Results

In nearly all procedures, results continue to refine over the span of a year. When your final outcomes manifest, you must preserve them by maintaining a stable weight, keeping an effective skincare routine, living a healthy lifestyle, and minimizing sun exposure.

Corresponding Procedures

Minimally invasive treatments combine well with surgical procedures, as they enhance skin quality and refine certain outcomes without extending your recovery time. If you are not ready for a surgical procedure, non-surgical options may also be effective alternatives. A few popular options include:

Microneedling

Microneedling gently punctures the skin to stimulate collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and more.

BOTOX®

Botox is a popular non-surgical treatment that addresses fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment is ideal if you want a refreshed and youthful appearance without undergoing significant surgery.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that smooth facial wrinkles, restore volume, and enhance contours. Dermal fillers create a youthful and plump appearance in visible signs of aging that appear around the eyes, cheeks, jawlines, and lips.

Cost of Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills or West Hollywood

The cost of your plastic surgery procedure depends on the specific procedure(s) you undergo, the severity of your concerns, your overall goals, and whether you include any other treatments. At your consultation, Dr. Younai will provide a detailed cost outline and address any lingering questions or concerns you may have. Dr. Younai also offers financing options to help make your goals more accessible.

FAQ

When is the right time to consider plastic surgery?

There is no “right time” to consider plastic surgery. If you are at least 18 (or have parental consent), have an appearance challenge that significantly reduces your quality of life, are in good general health, and want to make this change in your life, then you may find plastic surgery beneficial.

What are the different types of plastic surgery procedures?

Dr. Younai offers body contouring procedures, breast procedures, facial rejuvenation transformations, and body reconstructions.

Is there an age requirement to receive plastic surgery?

You must be at least 18 years old to undergo elective cosmetic surgery without parental consent. There is no age maximum, but patients should be healthy enough to undergo surgery.

How much does plastic surgery cost?

Each procedure carries a different price, and the final cost can vary widely depending on personal goals, scale of treatment, other treatment inclusions, facility, surgeon, anesthesia fees, and more. Dr. Younai will provide a comprehensive cost estimate during your consultation.

What should I consider before receiving plastic surgery?

Before you receive plastic surgery, you should consider how much your concerns affect your life. If you can address them through other means or are able to live a happy life with them, then surgery may not be necessary! Additionally, you should also consider your health standing, the pros and cons, the downtime, and the cost.

If I attend a consultation, do I have to undergo surgery?

Not at all. The consultation is your opportunity to discuss your concerns, explore your options, and decide if surgery is something you want to pursue. You are welcome to attend multiple consultations to gather as much information as you need to make a decision, and you are under no obligation to undergo surgery if you do not feel that it is necessary.
